A website for the self-employed: what you need and how much it costs

By Alex MG Studio · · 5 min read

Quick answer

For most self-employed professionals, a one-page website with your services, the area you cover, guide prices and contact buttons is enough. It costs, as a rough guide, between €150 and €600 when built by a designer, plus the domain and hosting in your name. It must include a legal notice, a privacy policy and a cookie policy.

Plumbers, physiotherapists, electricians, trainers, advisers, photographers… If you work for yourself, your own website is your business card, 24 hours a day.

Does a self-employed professional need a website?

If your customers look you up on Google before calling you, yes. Without a website you depend on recommendations and social media; with one, you appear when someone searches for your service in your area, you explain clearly what you do and you build trust before the first contact.

What kind of website you need

To start with, a well-built one-page website is enough for almost every self-employed professional: who you are, what you do, where you work, prices or starting prices, reviews and how to contact you. If you offer many different services or want a blog, you can grow into a multi-page website later.

What it should include

  1. What you do and where, on the first screen.
  2. Your services, explained without jargon.
  3. Prices or guide prices: they filter enquiries and build trust.
  4. The area you cover, especially if you go to the customer’s home.
  5. Real customer reviews.
  6. Call, WhatsApp and email buttons, easy to tap on a phone.
  • Legal notice: Spain’s LSSI requires you to display your name, tax ID (NIF), address and a contact email.
  • Privacy policy: the GDPR requires you to explain how you process personal data, especially if you have a contact form.
  • Cookie policy: plus a consent banner only if you use non-essential cookies (analytics with cookies, advertising…).

How much it costs

A one-page website built by a designer costs, as a rough guide, between €150 and €600, and a website with persuasive copy and local SEO between €300 and €1,000. On top of that you pay each year for the domain and hosting, which should be in your name. I go into detail in how much a website costs and how much it costs to maintain.

How to win customers with your website

The website works best together with a complete Google Business Profile with reviews, and with your town and your services clearly stated in the copy. I explain it in local SEO: how to appear on Google in your town.

And at Alex MG Studio? I work with three fixed-price plans for businesses all over Spain:

  • Basic Plan, €149 + VAT: a one-page, mobile-friendly website with WhatsApp and call buttons, published on your domain.
  • Business Plan, €290 + VAT: all of the above plus persuasive copy, local SEO and set-up in Google Search Console.
  • Pro Plan, €490 + VAT: everything above with several pages, bookings or a calendar and custom animations.
  • Optional maintenance, €19 + VAT a month: monthly changes, checks and backups, with no minimum term.

Payment: 25% when we start and 75% before delivery. The domain and hosting are registered in your business’s name, so the website is 100% yours.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to show my address on my website if I’m self-employed?

Spain’s LSSI requires your address to be shown in the legal notice. On Google Maps, however, you can set your profile up as a service-area business and hide the address.

How much does a website for a self-employed professional cost?

A one-page website built by a designer usually costs between €150 and €600, plus the domain and hosting, which should be in your name.

Can I use Instagram instead of a website?

Instagram helps to get you known, but it hardly appears on Google when someone searches for your service in your area. Ideally, use both.
