Guide for businesses

What a local business website should have

By Alex MG Studio · · 6 min read

Quick answer

A local business website should have, at the very least: what you do and where on the first screen, call and WhatsApp buttons, services with prices or guide prices, real photos, opening hours and location, reviews, a mobile-friendly design, fast loading, local SEO and the mandatory legal texts (legal notice, privacy and cookies).

Use this list to review your current website or to prepare your new one.

Content that persuades

  1. What you do and where, on the first screen. Within 3 seconds, visitors should know whether they are in the right place: “Unisex hair salon in the centre of Zaragoza”.
  2. Contact buttons always visible. Call and WhatsApp in one tap, especially on mobile.
  3. Services explained. One clear line per service, free of jargon.
  4. Prices or starting prices. They filter out time-wasters and build trust.
  5. Real photos. Of your premises, your team and your work. Stock photos help, but real ones sell more.
  6. Customer reviews. Google reviews or real testimonials, never made up.

Practical information

  1. Opening hours, address and map. With a button to open the route in Google Maps.
  2. Frequently asked questions. Parking, payment methods, whether an appointment is needed…

The technical side (you notice it even if you can’t see it)

  1. Mobile-friendly design. Most of your visits will come from phones.
  2. Fast loading. Optimised images and lightweight code. You can measure it for free with Google’s PageSpeed Insights.
  3. Local SEO. Your town in the title, structured data for Google and the website linked to your Google Maps listing.
  1. Legal notice, privacy policy and cookie policy. In Spain, the LSSI and the GDPR require you to identify the owner of the website and to explain how personal data is handled, especially if you have a contact form.

Mistakes that lose you the most customers

  • A phone number that can’t be tapped on a mobile.
  • Out-of-date opening hours.
  • Huge photos that take ages to load.
  • Long forms where a WhatsApp button would do.
  • No mention at all of the town you work in.

And at Alex MG Studio? I work with three fixed-price plans for businesses all over Spain:

  • Basic Plan, €149 + VAT: a one-page, mobile-friendly website with WhatsApp and call buttons, published on your domain.
  • Business Plan, €290 + VAT: all of the above plus persuasive copy, local SEO and set-up in Google Search Console.
  • Pro Plan, €490 + VAT: everything above with several pages, bookings or a calendar and custom animations.
  • Optional maintenance, €19 + VAT a month: monthly changes, checks and backups, with no minimum term.

Frequently asked questions

Is a legal notice mandatory on my business website?

Yes. In Spain, the LSSI requires the website owner’s identification details (name, tax ID number, address and contact details) to be displayed, and the GDPR requires you to provide information on how personal data is processed.

Do I need a cookie banner?

Only if the website installs non-essential cookies (analytics with cookies, advertising, etc.). A website without that type of cookie doesn’t need a banner, although it must have a cookie policy.

Should I put prices on my website?

It’s highly recommended, even if they are guide prices or “from” prices. It builds trust and reduces enquiries that don’t end in a sale.
